Mike Butler is a designer, art director, and illustrator who has been working in the field of communication arts since 2008. His career began in his hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland, where he worked for the marketing firm Upstream. During his time at Upstream, he worked with numerous clients, including Subaru, Mitsubishi, BMW/MINI, Anthony Insurance, The Marine Institute and CAPP and earned six ICE awards for marketing.
Based in Toronto since 2013, he has worked for The Marketing Store and The & Partnership on campaigns for TELUS, McDonald’s, NISSAN and Infiniti.
Having started his career in a smaller agency, Mike has hands-on experience with virtually every phase of the creative process, from initial concept generation to preparing final files for the printer. He is comfortable in the role of art director—working with and guiding photographers and designers—as well as the technical side—compositing photography, designing layouts, illustrating storyboards, assessing print proofs, etc.
He has worked in a variety of mediums, such as print, package design, environmental (tradeshow booths, guerrilla marketing events) social, web and video.
